Our Priorities

“I’m running for City Council because District 1 needs real change. Our community should not be left in the dark about what’s happening at City Hall. I will make it a priority to listen, communicate, and work collaboratively with residents and local businesses to get things done."

Improve Our Streets and Sidewalks

  • Coordinate construction and repairs with neighbors and businesses

  • Prioritize areas of highest needs surrounding schools, parks and public transportation routes

  • Proactively communicate to minimize negative impact

Safer Neighborhoods and Parks

  • Increase street lighting across the district

  • Support the activation of parks and public places

  • Create awareness within the community about available city and nonprofit resources

Tackle Rising Property Taxes

  • Implement programs that allow length of ownership to expand homestead

  • Ensure sufficient supply and maintenance of public housing

  • Partner with state legislators, county and school districts

Direct Outreach with Small Businesses

  • Work to create programs to provide supports when construction is planned

  • Forgiveness of utility plans during hardships

  • Continued investment in programs like Launch SA

Why I'm Running

My first name is pronounced like look with an "s".  My family immigrated from India when I was young and like so many other immigrant families, we moved in search of the American Dream.  My parents worked long hours in the flea market while my siblings and I went to school to get a good education. Experiencing discrimination after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, I knew I wanted to focus my life's work on social justice.  I studied policy at Rice University and also got my business degree there. Realizing that one of the biggest civil rights issues affecting our community is the inability to access high quality schools turned my focus to public education.  I served as a teacher, school leader and systems leader but what I have seen is that schools can’t do it alone.  Access to stable housing, safe neighborhoods and reliable transportation are necessary components to a child's success. Every decision and policy our city passes makes a difference for our children and future workforce.  This is why I am running for city council.  To create change for our current and future generation of San Antonians because I love my city and I love District 1.
